Estimados Padres de Familia:
Durante las próximas 8 semanas, segundo grado estará aprendiendo acerca de los terremotos y los volcanes.
Esta unidad de estudio es parte del Currículum Internacional de Primaria (International Primary Curriculum). Este nuevo currículum define claramente lo que los alumnos van a aprender – las metas de aprendizaje – en tres diferentes áreas:
1. Las materias del currículum — los objetivos de aprendizaje de cada una de estas materias son muy interesantes y son además un reto para los alumnos.
2. Desarrollo Personal — las características que ayudarán a los niños a convertirse en estudiantes responsables e independientes.
3. Entendimiento Internacional — el cual ayudará a los niños a desarrollar el sentido de independencia de su propio país y su cultura y la interdependencia entre países y culturas.
Cada unidad de trabajo esta fundamentada alrededor de objetivos específicos derivados de las metas de aprendizaje y de una o mas materias. Durante esta unidad, nos estaremos enfocando en Geografía, Tecnología, Ciencia, Música, Historia, Arte, Educación Física, Sociedad y sentido Internacional.
Los niños aprenderán acerca del país anfitrión y otros tres países:
En History, aprenderemos:
- Acerca de la devastación de Pompeya
En Geografía, aprenderemos:
- Como se formó la tierra
- Lo que es una isla volcánica y adonde se encuentran en el mundo
- Lo que causa un terremoto
- Como se miden los terremotos
En Ciencias, aprenderemos:
- Lo que sucede cuando un volcán hace erupción
- Lo que sucede cuando las rocas se derriten
- Como los volcanes pueden emanar gases venenosos
En Arte, estaremos aprendiendo:
· Acerca de los colores cálidos y frios
· Acerca del uso de diferentes materiales y técnicas para representar un volcán
En Tecnología, aprenderemos:
- Lo que hace a los edificios resistentes
- Acerca de ropa y equipos protectores
- Acerca de como preparar un equipo de sobrevivencia
En Música, aprenderemos:
- Como utilizar los instrumentos para crear imágenes de sonido
- Como componer nuestra propia pieza de música
En Educación Física, aprenderemos:
- Como utilizar distintas secuencias de movimientos para demostrar la historia de los volcanes
En Sociedad, aprenderemos:
- Las leyendas asociadas con los volcanes
- Porque las personas continúan viviendo en áreas volcánicas a pesar de los peligros que esto conlleva
En International, aprenderemos:
- Acerca de las organizaciones internacionales que colaboran después de un desastre natural
- Acerca de las repercusiones de un terremoto y de la actividad volcánica
Todo el trabajo que haremos ha sido escrito para ayudarle a su hijo a alcanzar los objetivos de aprendizaje. Los niños leerán, investigarán, escribirán, ilustrarán, ejecutarán, trabajando solos y en grupos. Estaremos pendiente de ver que tan bien su hijo ha aprendido por medio de distintas actividades y pidiéndole que explique su trabajo, en algunas ocasiones, a ustedes.
Ya conocemos el interés que ustedes tienen en el trabajo de su hijo. De ser posible, por favor discuta con su hijo el trabajo que ha hecho conforme avanza la unidad, y si es posible, déjelo que le enseñe.
Hable con su hijo acerca de las noticias de terremotos, volcanes en erupción y tsunamis que han aparecido mas recientemente en los periódicos o en televisión.
Si su hijo tiene algún trabajo que investigar, por favor ayúdele - pero sin hacerle el trabajo! Si tiene la oportunidad de ahondar en sus ideas sobre este tema, por favor hágalo pues su entusiasmo y su interés son lo mas importante.
Para el final de la unidad, esperamos que su hijo haya alcanzado todos los objetivos de aprendizaje. Esperamos que haya disfrutado de su tiempo en el aula; y esperamos que usted haya disfrutado viendo a su hijo trabajar con entusiasmo. Dear Parents,
Over the next 8 weeks second grade will be following a unit of work on a theme that focuses on earthquakes and volcanoes.
This unit of work is part of the International Primary Curriculum. This new curriculum
sets out very clearly what children will learn — the learning goals — in three different areas:
1. The subjects of the curriculum — the learning goals for each of these subjects are very interesting and challenging for young children.
2. Personal development — the characteristics which will help the children become responsible, independent learners.
3. International understanding — which will help children develop a sense of the independence of their own country and culture and the interdependence between countries and cultures.
Each unit of work is based around specific targets derived from the learning goals for one or more of the subjects. During this unit we will be focussing on Geography, Technology, Science, Music, History, Art, Physical Education, Society and International mindedness.
The children will be learning about the host country and three other countries.
In History, we’ll be finding out:
- About the devastation of Pompeii
In Geography, we’ll be finding out:
- How the Earth is formed
- What a volcano island is and where they are in the world
- What causes and earthquake
- How earthquakes can be measured
In Science, we’ll be finding out:
- What happens when a volcano erupts
- What happens when rock melts
- How volcanoes can give poisonous gas
In Art, we’ll be finding out:
- About hot and cold colours
- About using different materials and techniques to represent a volcano
In Technology, we’ll be finding out:
- What makes buildings strong
- About protective cloth and equipment
- About how to put together a survival kit
In Music, we’ll be finding out:
- How to use instruments to make sound pictures
- How to compose our own piece of music
In Physical Education, we’ll be finding out:
- How to use lots of different sequences of movement to show the story of volcanoes
In Society, we’ll be finding out:
- About leyends associated with volcanoes
- Why people continue to live in volcanic areas despite the dangers
In International, we’ll be finding out:
- About international organisations that work after natural disasters
- About the knock-on effect of earthquakes and volcanic activity.
All of the work we are going to do has been specially written to help your child reach the learning goals. Children will be reading, researching, writing, illustrating, performing, working on their own and working in groups. We will be checking to see how well your child has learned through particular activities and by asking children to explain their work, perhaps to you.
We already know the interest you take in your child’s work. If you can, please discuss with your child the work they have done as the unit progresses and let them teach you if they can.
Talk with your child about recent earthquakes, volcanoes or tsunamis you might have read about in newspapers or seen on television.
If your child has some work to research, please help them, but without actually doing the work. If you have the chance to further their interest in the ideas of this theme please take it, as your enthusiasm and interest is most important.
By the end of the unit, we hope your child has achieved all of the learning targets. We hope they have had an enjoyable time in the classroom and we hope you have enjoyed seeing your child work with enthusiasm. If you have any comments about the work your child has done, please get in touch.
