Estimados Padres de Familia:
Durante las próximas 7 semanas, segundo y tercer grado estarán
estudiando una unidad de trabajo cuyo tema serán las Olimpiadas.
Esta unidad de estudio es parte del
Currículum Internacional de Primaria (International Primary Curriculum). Este
nuevo currículum define claramente lo que los alumnos van a aprender – las
metas de aprendizaje – en tres diferentes áreas:
1. Las materias del currículum — los objetivos de aprendizaje de
cada una de estas materias son muy interesantes y son además un reto para los
alumnos.
2. Desarrollo Personal — las características que ayudarán a los
niños a convertirse en estudiantes responsables e independientes.
3. Entendimiento Internacional — el cual ayudará a los niños a
desarrollar el sentido de independencia de su propio país y su cultura y la
interdependencia entre países y culturas.
Cada unidad de trabajo está fundamentada alrededor de objetivos
específicos derivados de las metas de aprendizaje y de una o mas materias.
Durante esta unidad, nos estaremos enfocando en Historia, Geografía, Ciencia,
Arte, Tecnología, Música, Educación Física y sentido Internacional.
Los niños aprenderán acerca del país anfitrión y otros tres países:
En Historia, aprenderemos:
- Acerca de los orígenes de los Juegos Olímpicos
- Como las Olimpiadas han ido cambiando a lo largo del tiempo
En Geografía, aprenderemos:
- Adonde tendrán lugar las próximas Olimpiadas
- Como este gran evento afecta la ciudad que es sede los juegos
- Como nosotros podemos planear nuestras propias Olimpiadas Escolares
En Ciencia, aprenderemos:
- Como el ejercicio afecta nuestro cuerpo
- Lo que necesitan comer los atletas
En Arte, estaremos aprendiendo:

Como crear nuestra propia
mascota Olímpica

Como diseñar boletos y
posters Olímpicos
En Tecnología, aprenderemos:
- Como se utiliza la tecnología en las Olimpiadas
- Que tipo de tecnología necesitaremos para nuestras Olimpiadas
- Como se elaboran las medallas Olímpicas
En Música, aprenderemos:
- Como componer música para nuestras propias Olimpiadas
En Educación Física, aprenderemos:
- Cuáles de los deportes que practicamos en el colegio son deportes
Olímpicos
- Si podemos inventar nuestro propio deporte Olímpico
- Como podemos competir con otros colegios miembros del IPC
En International, aprenderemos:
- Si los países sede participan en las Olimpiadas
- Lo que las personas opinan acerca de las Olimpiadas
Todo el trabajo que haremos ha sido escrito para ayudarle a su hijo a
alcanzar los objetivos de aprendizaje. Los niños leerán, investigarán,
escribirán, ilustrarán, ejecutarán, trabajando solos y en grupos. Estaremos
pendiente de ver que tan bien su hijo ha aprendido por medio de distintas
actividades y pidiéndole que explique su trabajo, en algunas ocasiones, a
ustedes.
Ya conocemos el interés que ustedes tienen en el trabajo de su hijo. De
ser posible, por favor discuta con su hijo el trabajo que ha hecho conforme
avanza la unidad, y si es posible, déjelo que le enseñe.
Hable con su hijo acerca de los Juegos Olímpicos. Traiga a la memoria
sus recuerdos de juegos pasados y de sus deportes favoritos. Busque información
acerca de las tradiciones Olímpicas y de los próximos eventos Olímpicos.
Si su hijo tiene algún trabajo que investigar, por favor ayúdele - pero
sin hacerle el trabajo! Si tiene la
oportunidad de ahondar en sus ideas sobre este tema, por favor hágalo pues su
entusiasmo y su interés son lo mas importante.
Para el final de la unidad, esperamos que su hijo haya alcanzado todos
los objetivos de aprendizaje. Esperamos que haya disfrutado de su tiempo en el
aula; y esperamos que usted haya disfrutado viendo a su hijo trabajar con

Dear
Parents,
Over the
next 7 weeks second and third grade will
be following a unit of work on a theme that focuses on “The Olympics”.
This unit of work is part of the International Primary Curriculum.
This new curriculum
sets out very clearly what children will
learn — the learning goals — in three different
areas:
1. The
subjects of the curriculum — the learning goals for each of these subjects are very interesting and challenging for young
children.
2. Personal
development — the characteristics which will help the children become
responsible, independent learners.
3. International
understanding — which will help children develop a sense of the
independence of their own country and culture and the interdependence between
countries and cultures.
Each unit of
work is based around specific targets derived from the learning goals for one
or more of the subjects. During this unit we will be focussing on History,
Geography, Science, Art, Technology, Music, Physical Education and
International mindedness.
The children
will be learning about the host country and three other countries.
In History, we’ll be finding out:
- About the origins of the Olympic games
- How the Olympics has changed over time
In Geography, we’ll be finding out:
- Where the next Olympic is going to be held
- How this big event affects the city holding
the games
- How we can plan our own School Olympic
In Science, we’ll be finding out:
- How exercise affect the body
- What athletes need to eat
In Art, we’ll be finding out:
- How to create a mascot for our own Olympics
- How to design Olympic tickets and posters
In Technology, we’ll be finding out:
- How technology is used in the Olympics
- What technology we will need for our Olympics
- How Olympic medals are made
In Music, we’ll be finding out:
- How to compose music for our own Olympics
In Physical Education, we’ll be finding
out:
- Which of our school sports are Olympic sports
- If we can invent our own Olympic sport
- How we can compete with other IPC-member
schools
In International, we’ll be finding out:
- If the host/home countries take part in the
Olympics
- What people think about the Olympics
All of the
work we are going to do has been specially written to help your child reach the
learning goals. Children will be reading, researching, writing, illustrating,
performing, working on their own and working in groups. We will be checking to
see how well your child has learned through particular activities and by asking
children to explain their work, perhaps to you.
We already
know the interest you take in your child’s work. If you can, please discuss
with your child the work they have done as the unit progresses and let them
teach you if they can.
Talk with
your child about the Olympic Games.
Recall your memories of the games in the past and your favourite
sports. Find information about Olympic
traditions and forthcoming Olympic events.
If your
child has some work to research, please help them, but without actually doing
the work. If you have the chance to
further their interest in the ideas of this theme please take it, as your
enthusiasm and interest is most important.
By the end
of the unit, we hope your child has achieved all of the learning targets. We hope they have had an enjoyable time in
the classroom and we hope you have enjoyed seeing your child work with
